Listen to Tell Me More from Sunday, March 6th, 2016 – Philadelphia Community Gardening with Julia Schrader Ortega
We peek in on the Philadelphia Flower show to learn about local programs that promote gardening as a tool for transforming individuals and communities. Julianne Schrader Ortega from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is my guest.
A Chinese proverb says “If you wish to be happy for a lifetime – plant a garden” The 2016 Philadelphia Flower Show is in its first weekend. With a theme of Explore America, this year’s Flower Show is a dazzling celebration of our National Parks with created mountains, streams and hiking trails. It’s also a reminder that spring really is on its way, bringing with it the opportunity for those of us who garden on a more humble scale, that it’s time to get back out in the garden and get busy. I asked Julianne Schrader Ortega, of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to tell me more about the Community Gardening Programs, funded with Flower Show proceeds. She talks about our very basic human connection to nature. For more information visit: http://phsonline.org/programs
